Based on Edward Carey's 2000 novel of the same name, Observatory Mansions centres on a group of recluses living together in a manor house-turned slum building. A new tenant's unexpected arrival ushers in an age of upheaval, forever altering the estranged residents. Against a backdrop of entropy, decay, and urban development, this story explores the weight of memory and obsession, the struggle for connection, and the potential for transformation.
This show was produced by The Villains Theatre in 2021. It marked the first time this novel was officially adapted for the stage. It was nominated for a Robert Merritt Award for "Best Adaptation."
